Would you go back to the Old Ways if it meant giving up everything back to before the Europeans?
Absolutely! Just let me strip down to my loin cloth...

...would you? Imagine it would mean giving up every facet of life since the Europeans landed in the Americas. Not even horses, iron tools, etc. It's all the way back to stone knives and bearskins, living in mud and wattle huts or hide coverings, etc. You can assume in this scenario that it's not just you. Maybe there's a hundred or so people in this venture. Would you do it? And not just as a vacation. I mean as a lifestyle change.

There are people who are doing this, but they're doing it as a study and as an effort to preserve stone age skills. Very commendable, and I am so jealous of that nifty jacket they made starting with a bull! But it's not for me. I'd go crazy without my e-mail!

Very interesting Poll. I am not concerned of course, being european. I read that the Native American survived so well because he adapted to his situations as time went on. The nations that did'nt adapt did'nt survive. I'm talking about pre-european era. Last year we visited the Amish in Pens. They were amazingly wonderful peaceful people. As you all know they live like in a different era. One of my \ said "i'de really like to live like them". But i would'nt give her a day without her mobile phone or the computer. Let alone central heating and \ showers!!!! Smile Smile

LOL

There's a book called "Better Off" in which a couple of guys go live in a community (not Amish) that has given up all electrical devices and whatnot. The idea is that we've got way more than we actually need. Telephones? Yes. Telephone/camera/mp3 player/dayplanner/handheld videogame? Mmm, no. How many "things" do we really need? If it's available in Europe, give it a read.

You know i was thinking that as i wrote. When i was 15 and living in England we got our first phone. It was great. Up until then we would use the phone in the street. But it did'nt really bother me much. Then i remember when we got our first colour tv. And then when i was 18 my mum bought a washing machine. one day my parents bought a \ player. I was married by then. Now it sounds as though i'm ancient. Well i just turned 50 (to some that may sound ancient). It's just that my parents did'nt see the great need. We have created needs, as you say. One of my married daughters keeps saying"Well when are you going to buy a large screen tv mum and dad". They can't understand that we are quite happy with what we have. When this tv dies we will buy a bigger screen.
Just to say that i would now find it difficult to go without all that i have. I have to be honest. Oh sorry this is long. I suppose i am making up for being absent Smile Smile
it would be good to know what others think of going without.
